What do we mean by monitoring?

Specifically, monitoring means supervising a process. A monitoring system is a system that continuously monitors and controls your process. It tracks incoming measurement data and fags up any situations that require intervention. This is only a brief description of a monitoring system because there is so much more it can do.

So how do you go about creating this monitoring and control system for your process?

You do so by placing sensors at various critical and other points in your process, so you can collect measured values. These readings (also called measurement data) are collected and stored in a central location. You can use the measurement data to monitor your process and build up a history to anticipate any issues.

Suppose temperature is an important factor in your process. You can manually check and log the temperature at set times. However, this does not let you measure continuously, so you cannot actively make any adjustments as soon as a discrepancy is detected. This can be detrimental to your process.

Choosing a monitoring system will give you continuous supervision of your process and let you improve its quality. For example, by placing a temperature sensor in a cold store or oven you can ensure they are performing exactly as they should. By setting an alarm, you are alerted at once if the temperature deviates from the set norm, allowing you to respond immediately. You can also draw conclusions from comparing results, which lets you fine-tune your process even more.

Monitoring system applications

A monitoring system is mostly used to monitor temperature, humidity, CO2 levels, light intensity/light incidence, pressure/differential pressure, water quality and weather conditions. These are just some of the many applications because the system offers endless measurement capabilities.

The main applications per sector are:

  • Agro
  • Building management – Property and construction
  • Industry
  • Research and Development – Environment & research, pharmaceutical industry & laboratories
  • Foodstuffs (HACCP)

Nokeval’s Ovaport monitoring system

Pedak is the exclusive distributor for the Finnish brand Novekal. Nokeval has developed a highly reliable monitoring system called Ovaport.

You can use Ovaport wherever environmental conditions affecting the final product need to be monitored. Take, for example, cooling, freezing, heating or using an incubator to grow and maintain products. With Ovaport, Pedak offers a total solution for temperature registration, climate monitoring and process control. It is a completely wireless monitoring system comprising a flexible combination of hardware, software, service and calibration.

Benefits of the OVA monitoring system

Ovaport is user-friendly and its operation is fully automated. This offers the following benefits:

  • Time-saving
No time-consuming manual measurements or recording of data. Automated measurements using wireless temperature sensors.
  • Reliability
Reliable measurement data is needed to provide the right information to allow timely adjustments. Pedak takes care of the installation and annual calibration so all this is guaranteed
  • Rapid response time
Ovaport immediately transmits an alert in the event of deviating readings, making it possible to respond immediately and prevent any unnecessary consequential damage.
  • User convenience
Automated reporting, different user levels, email notifications and the assignment of tasks are standard features that make OVA extremely user-friendly.
  • Versatility
Ovaport is a versatile system that can easily be expanded or used in conjunction with other data systems.

HOBOnet field-monitoring system from Onset

If you are looking more for an outdoor monitoring solution, then Pedak is the official distributor of products by Onset, experts in data logging and environmental monitoring. The HOBO® brand makes monitoring outdoors child’s play.

From agricultural research and ecological studies to farming, Onset’s weatherproof sensors provide unparalleled ease of use and exceptional reliability, even in the most demanding of outdoor environments.

HOBOnet field-monitoring system applications

  • Weather monitoring
Keep an eye on weather conditions and gather climate data using sensors and data loggers, with the option of viewing data locally or on the internet.
  • Soil conditions
Keep track of changes in soil properties with sensors that measure moisture, temperature, electrical conductivity etc. – for research and agricultural purposes.
  • Agricultural research
Measure and record environmental conditions that affect the health of crops and growing activities. Obtain data that can help encourage better agricultural practices and decisions.
  • Environmental research
User-friendly, reliable sensors and weather stations for a full range of environmental data and a better understanding of existing and changing conditions.
  • Field monitoring
The use of wireless sensors that collectively form a network capable of monitoring an entire field at different points is what we call field monitoring. Field monitoring helps researchers and farmers monitor the microclimate and soil conditions at numerous points in and around the fields.
  • Green roof monitoring
Web-based monitoring systems for green roofs track weather conditions and measure rainwater run-off to keep the rooftop vegetation healthy.
