What is a calibrator?

A calibrator is used to compare the measured values of systems or devices with those of a national or international standard to determine whether or not the device under test is reading true. We call this calibration.

The calibrator has different magnitudes that should be attributed to standardised measurement signals.

The system or device can then be adjusted to bring it in line with the manufacturer’s specifications.

What instruments can be calibrated with a calibrator?

Calibrators are used to calibrate any measuring instrument for which a national or international standard has been established. In measurement technology, such instruments include temperature meters, weighing scales, infrared cameras, data loggers, process data loggers, differential pressure meters and many other devices.

It is important to have your measuring instruments calibrated periodically; sometimes every six months or every year according to the type of instrument. This depends on the application, the characteristics and the frequency of use. The reasons for having a system or device calibrated include certification, standards and regulations, safety, accuracy and occasionally economic interests.
