Milesight WTS506 LoRaWAN Weather Station
The Milesight WTS506 is a complete LoRaWAN weather station for continuous measurement and monitoring of meteorological conditions. One compact measuring system measures temperature, relative humidity, wind speed, wind direction, barometric pressure and rainfall.
Thanks to wireless LoRaWAN communication and solar power, the weather station can operate almost autonomously at the measurement location. This makes the WTS506 particularly suitable for applications where reliable local weather data is required, but cabling or a fixed power supply is impractical.
Typical applications include agriculture and horticulture, crop and field research, meteorological research, forestry, water management, infrastructure and building management.
Six meteorological parameters in one system
The WTS506 combines several sensors in one robust measuring unit:
- Temperature: -40 to +85 °C, accuracy ±0.3 °C
- Relative humidity: 0 to 100% RH, accuracy ±3% RH
- Wind speed: 0 to 60 m/s, accuracy ±0.3 m/s or ±3%
- Wind direction: 0 to 360°, accuracy ±3°
- Barometric pressure: 500 to 1100 hPa, accuracy ±0.5 hPa
- Rainfall: 0 to 1000 mm
Wind direction and wind speed are measured using ultrasonic technology, while rainfall is measured using a piezoelectric measurement principle. This allows Milesight to integrate multiple meteorological measurements into a compact design.
Wireless measurement via LoRaWAN
Measurement data is transmitted via LoRaWAN, enabling the weather station to communicate over long distances with a suitable LoRaWAN gateway.
This makes it possible to install measurement points in locations where a wired data connection would be difficult or costly. Multiple sensors and measurement locations can also be integrated into a single LoRaWAN network.
The European version supports EU868 and operates according to LoRaWAN Class A with OTAA or ABP activation.
Autonomous operation with solar power
The WTS506 is supplied as a system with a 15 W solar panel. Integrated rechargeable backup batteries ensure that the system continues to operate during periods with insufficient sunlight.
According to Milesight, the weather station can operate for at least seven days without sunlight using its backup batteries.
This makes the WTS506 suitable for long-term autonomous measurements in the field.
Local data storage prevents loss of measurement data
In addition to wireless data transmission, the WTS506 provides local storage for more than 19,000 measurement records.
If the LoRaWAN connection is temporarily unavailable, measurement data can be stored locally and retransmitted later. This reduces the risk of missing measurement data and makes the system suitable for long-term monitoring applications.
Threshold values can also be configured to generate alarm notifications.
Designed for outdoor use
The weather station is designed for long-term use in outdoor environments. The sensor housing is made from a robust aluminium alloy and is resistant to rust, corrosion and oxidation.
The sensor unit has an IP65 protection rating, while the WTS Hub is rated IP67.
The sensor and solar panel can be mounted on a mast or pole, allowing the system to be positioned at the required measurement location.
Easy configuration via NFC
Local configuration can be performed via NFC using a mobile app. The WTS Hub also features an internal USB-C connection for configuration using a computer.
Communication and measurement settings can therefore be easily adjusted during installation and maintenance.
