Milesight GS601 LoRaWAN® vape-detector
The Milesight GS601 is a wireless vape detector designed to monitor smoke-free indoor environments. It detects the use of e-cigarettes and conventional tobacco products while also measuring temperature, relative humidity, particulate matter and TVOC.
When an incident is detected, the GS601 can immediately generate a local alert using its built-in buzzer and LED indicator. Measurement data and alarms are transmitted to a central platform via LoRaWAN®, enabling a rapid response. Its integrated tamper protection makes the sensor particularly suitable for schools, restrooms, apartment buildings and other public or shared spaces.

Reliable vaping and smoking detection
The GS601 combines multiple sensors to analyse changes in indoor air quality. This allows the device to identify the use of vape pens, disposable e-cigarettes and similar products. It can also detect smoke produced by cigarettes, cigars and other combustible tobacco products.
The sensor is designed to distinguish vaping or smoking events from environmental influences such as water vapour. This helps to reduce unwanted alarms in areas such as restrooms and changing rooms.
Comprehensive indoor air-quality monitoring
In addition to vape detection, the GS601 measures several parameters that provide insight into indoor environmental conditions:
- Temperature
- Relative humidity
- Vape index
- TVOC
- PM1.0
- PM2.5
- PM10
This combination makes it possible to detect incidents and monitor general changes in indoor air quality.
Immediate alarm notifications
When a configured threshold is exceeded, the GS601 activates its LED indicator and integrated buzzer. At the same time, an alarm notification is transmitted to the connected IoT platform via LoRaWAN®.
The buzzer can temporarily be placed into hibernation mode, helping to prevent unnecessary alarms during installation, configuration or maintenance.
Tamper and theft protection
Detectors installed in public and shared spaces must not be removed or disabled unnoticed. The GS601 therefore features an integrated vibration sensor that can detect unauthorised movement and transmit a tamper alarm.
LoRaWAN® communication
LoRaWAN® enables the GS601 to communicate wirelessly with a compatible gateway over long distances. This eliminates the need for separate network or data cables to each sensor.
The GS601 operates as a LoRaWAN® Class C device, keeping it continuously available for rapid communication and remote configuration. Power is supplied through USB-C or an optional PoE splitter.
Easy installation and configuration
The GS601 is designed for ceiling mounting and can be configured locally using NFC and a mobile app. Settings and alarm thresholds can therefore be adjusted quickly during installation.
For larger deployments, the sensor supports central device management, OTA firmware updates, API integrations and webhooks through the Milesight Development Platform.
